Learning with Heritage Educational Toolkit

Following the research and mapping phase of the Be Festive project, project partners came together to develop the “Learning with Heritage Educational Toolkit”. Designed for youth workers, educators, and people working in the cultural field, this comprehensive resource aims to connect the rich cultural heritage of the Mediterranean with youth work practices.

Festivals in the Mediterranean are much more than celebrations. Songs, rituals, dances, streets, shared meals, and stories passed down through generations all reflect ways of coming together, building solidarity, and creating collectively. From the polyphonic musical traditions of Greece to the celebrations in Cyprus, from ritual practices in Italy to traditional festivities in Türkiye, Egypt, and Jordan, each cultural expression inspired this toolkit as a living part of shared memory.

The toolkit approaches cultural heritage as a living learning space that can be experienced together with young people. It includes creative and participatory methods such as gamification, interactive storytelling, social media production, community-based activities, and experiential learning. Our goal is simple: to provide youth workers with practical tools while supporting young people in building stronger and more creative connections with cultural heritage. The toolkit also aims to strengthen the participation of young people with fewer opportunities in cultural life and community engagement.

International Training

One of the key moments of the training process was the international LTTA (Learning, Teaching and Training Activity) hosted by MUSE in Nicosia between 12–16 January 2026. Throughout the training, youth workers and project partners experienced the toolkit modules together. Participants collaborated on digital storytelling, ethical documentation methods, community engagement practices, and heritage-based youth programmes. They also had the opportunity to visit different cultural sites across Cyprus and experience local heritage practices directly in the field.
