Exploring Mediterranean Festivities
The research phase of the Be Festive project focuses on exploring traditional festivities across Mediterranean countries and understanding their role in community life, cultural heritage, and youth participation. Festivals are much more than celebrations. They are important social spaces where people come together, traditions are shared, and cultural knowledge is passed from one generation to another.
Research Process
Throughout the project, traditional festivities in different Mediterranean countries were explored to better understand how these celebrations bring communities together and create spaces for youth participation.
During the research process:
- traditional festivities across the Mediterranean region were studied,
- experiences and knowledge were gathered from communities and youth workers,
- and the cultural meanings and practices behind local celebrations were documented.
Cultural Map
As one of the project’s key outputs, PUHU developed an online cultural map of Mediterranean festivities.
The map brings together festivals from different countries to highlight the cultural diversity and richness of the region. At the same time, it serves as a resource for young people and youth workers who want to explore cultural heritage in new and engaging ways.
The cultural map is also an important tool supporting the project’s learning activities by creating connections between cultural heritage and youth participation.
